UVA Electronic Data Capture Options
Researchers may need to build a database and eCRFs (electronic case report forms) to manage their clinical research data. The Research & Clinical Trials Analytics Team (RCTA) is established as a part of the research infrastructure development with the support of Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia (THRIV) to advance clinical and translational science at UVA. RCTA includes a dedicated team of informatics experts, programmers, and research support staff who provide a variety of services including assisting with database development.
You can contact us if you need help determining the best approach for a particular research question. Remember that if you are working with identifiable health data for research purposes, you should review the IRB-HSRs guidelines regarding when you need prior approval from the IRB and obtain necessary approvals prior to contacting our team.
We have a variety of tools to address your research database needs. In the majority of cases, we recommend building a REDCap database. Cancer studies may require OnCore eCRFs, and 21 CFR Part 11 studies must use Advarra EDC. Please use the contact information provided to the right so we can schedule an initial consult.
How do I decide which system (REDCap or Advarra EDC) will better suit my needs?
Please use the Research eCRF Decision Matrix below to better guide you when making your decision on the appropriate system for your needs. The matrix is also attached (see menu to the right) for your convenience as a printable PDF.
