The UVA Resource and Data Exchange (RDE) for Health Research: Your Gateway to Collaborative Clinical and Translational Research
Welcome to the newly redesigned RDE for Health Research (formerly the iTHRIV Portal and Commons). The RDE for Health Research is a secure web application designed to support information exchange, project collaboration, and controlled access data sharing among authenticated users—and, when appropriate, with the public. UVA Users: FIRST LOG IN using your institutional credentials to access personalized content and features available only to authenticated users.
The RDE Resource Explorer helps you find resources and events to support your health research. All users can search topics such as best practices, team science, funding, proposal development, research operations, regulations, data science, and community engagement. Authenticated UVA users can track favorites and are encouraged to contribute resources or events related to services, tools, and research support. Content may include brief descriptions with external links or more detailed information managed within the interface. Contributors can choose to keep entries private to selected users or make them visible to all.
The RDE Private Data Enclave (PDE) enables research teams to share project and dataset descriptions and files via a web interface. The Health Research PDE is accessible to authenticated UVA users on an approved secure network (UVA high-security VPN or local health system network). It provides secure, permissioned storage of sensitive data on an HIT-managed server, with access to highly sensitive patient data restricted to researchers on the active IRB protocol. Free storage is capped at 6 GB per file and 1 TB per PI (but contact rde_admin@virginia.edu if needs exceed these limits). Features include REDCap integration and automatic DICOM deidentification. The RDE Public Data Commons is available to all users and contains project and dataset content that researchers have chosen to publish from the Private Data Enclave. Entries may include access instructions for related data and, when permitted, downloadable data files. Published files are assigned DOIs by LibraData and become widely discoverable due to this dataverse integration. The Public Data Commons also features descriptions and direct links to public datasets relevant to translational health research, including CDC and Virginia Open Data Portal resources.
