The I-Corps™ (Innovation Corps) program, by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), is a comprehensive training initiative designed to foster the conversion of innovation into tangible outcomes. This program provides scientists and engineers with hands-on experience, equipping them to go beyond the laboratory setting and propel NSF-funded and other research projects towards commercialization, thus maximizing their economic and societal contributions. Customer Discovery, the crucial initial phase, sets the foundation for effectively transforming innovations into products, processes, and services that have tangible benefits for society. I-Corps participants receive direct, hands-on experience in customer discovery — a key step in the entrepreneurial process that involves talking to potential customers, partners and other industry stakeholders.
The NSF initiative is composed of Hubs as the operational backbones of the National Innovation Network. The University of Virginia is a member institution of the Mid-South Regional Hub and provides I-Corps training.
