Access an Interpreter-Cyracom Mobile Devices for Research
Need an Interpreter for a Research Subject?
Now you can have one anytime of the day or night with the use our new mobile Cyracom ipads!
The ipads are equip with the Cyracom app which has access to a live interpreter by audio and/or video in just about every language you can imagine. The mobile Cyracom ipads are located in the following locations:
- Clinical Research Unit (CRU) in the Collins Wing
- 4th floor clinical research lab (room 4410) in the main hospital
- CRU 1st floor, 560 Building Fontaine Research Park
They can be accessed and utilized 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for any research subject just by going to one of the two locations and picking up a mobile station. The iPads will only work in an area with HS/CS wireless capabilities which should include the west complex, main hospital, Collins and Fontaine Clinical Research Units, primary care center, and Fontaine clinics.
An instruction card is attached to each station which contains a username and password if needed.
Please be sure to return to the devices to where you found them and keep them plugged in as much as possible, especially when not in use.
What happens if you are in a location where there is no HS/CS wireless capability?
There is an option, as long as you have access to wireless service (any wireless service)!
If you have a UVA-owned iPhone or iPad, you can open the Blue and Orange Health IT Apps Store. If you get a prompt regarding a certificate, that is normal and you just need to hit continue. Once the store is loaded you should be able to find CyraCom Interpreter located in the Popular Apps section OR you can use the search function located near the bottom right of the store. Click on CyraCom, and press Install it will start to spin and then go to Processing. There is no download progress bar on the page so once you see processing feel free to go back to the home page and within a few minutes CyraCom should install. After it's installed, you will want to allow Microphone and Camera access. Then sign in with the UVA CyraCom account.
If you have an iPad or iPhone that isn't registered in MobileIron, registering is fairly easy. Visit the Health IT website for instructions on registering a device. If you have a device that is shared between multiple people and do not wish to register it to a single person, let us know and we can provide an account to allow you to register as a shared device. After it's been registered the Health IT Apps Store will be available to use.
Remember: you may not use your personal cell phone or iPad to communicate with study subjects!
Translation service is provided at no cost to the UVA research community with support from the integrated Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia (iTHRIV) and the UVA Translation Services office.
