W.M. Keck Center for Cellular Imaging
The primary goal of the W.M. Keck Center for Cellular Imaging is to provide a state of the art optical imaging facility to enhance both the research and teaching environments of the University. Concomitant with this goal is the continual development and implementation of novel optical imaging methods that interface expertise in biology, optics and electronic engineering. Introduction The W.M. Keck Center for Cellular Imaging (KCCI) laboratory space and office resources are fully equipped to carry out the experiments for live or fixed cells, tissues and animal. The KCCI space for the imaging systems and the tissue culture facility is 3,100 square foot, located at the basement of the Physical and Life Sciences Building (PLSB) (near Scott Stadium, University of Virginia (https://kcci.virginia.edu/facility). Enough office space for the center director, the staffs, the students and the data analysis rooms are available outside of the center space. The Keck Center is equipped with various imaging systems including laser scanning confocals (3), confocal spectral imaging (3), multiphoton microscopy (2), in vivo/intravital imaging, light sheet microscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) systems (3), wide-field microscopy, high content screening (HCS) system, total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy and steady state & lifetime spectrofluorometry. We have implemented Förster resonance energy transfer methodology in all the above mentioned imaging systems. The Keck Center (KCCI) is internationally known center for molecular imaging using advanced light microscopy techniques. We run an annual workshop on FLIM & FRET microscopy during March since 2002 https://kcci.virginia.edu/workshop-2024 . We trained participants nationally and internationally and scientists from 30 countries attended the workshop.
