NIH Data Sharing and Management Plan UVA RDE Sample Language

PURPOSE:

This sample includes language specific to the use of the UVA Resource and Data Exchange for Health Research which is provided for free to all health researchers at UVA. The plan includes appropriate language for researchers conducting clinical research or using any type of HIPAA-regulated, patient-derived data. Please note that not all sample language may apply to your study.

RDE Data Sharing and Management Language:

The UVA Resource and Data Exchange (RDE) for Health Research simplies and supports compliant and secure data storage.  Researchers with approved IRB-HSR protocols can upload highly sensitive data files to the RDE for Health Research. The RDE supports compliance by restricting access to HSD to reseachers who are on the active IRB protocol. The RDE integrates with REDCap to support automatic extracts of full REDCap projects or reports to RDE dataset object where access is controlled by the appropriate data administrator. The RDE integrates with local anaytics environments include Ivy (high security comuting cluster). The RDE allows researchers to publish metadata about projects and datasets when desired while keeping the data files private.  This allows descriptions of datasets to be discoverable publicly while the controlled access data remains secured behind local firewalls and accessible to only permissioned users.  Metadata can describe the steps needed to obtain data access (for example, execution of contracts, being added to local IRBs, etc.).  When permitted, researchers can publish dataset files directly from the RDE, in which case the metadata and file are assigned a DOI and disseminated via UVA's Dataverse instance (UVA Libradata).

OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION:

This page has other helpful materials supporting the writing of NIH Data Sharing and Management Plans.

NOTE:

Custom instances of the RDE can be created for research initiatives with configurable home page, information architecture/categories, security configuration, and multi-site data management.  Custom instances need to be included in your study budget. Contact rde_admin@virginia.edu to learn more.
