Communities: Ask Questions BEFORE ENTERING A RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP

Research should reflect the needs and priorities of communities

Before engaging in research community members should ask questions, get examples from other community partners and seek out matching goals between the researchers and the community.

Embrace the wisdom and expertise of trusted messengers

Communities should look to partner with someone who knows about community-engaged work and includes the community from the start. A partner should know the community and should show commitment and go beyond the research partnership.

Find community health workers who reflect and connect with the community.

Tailor strategies to the community's needs.
