iPRIME: 15328 Human Phenotyping and Immune Cell Core; Immune Cell Interactions in Atherosclerosis

It has been well established that inflammation, both local and systemic, plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. However, there still remains a large void in our understanding of leukocyte phenotypes that are pro- inflammatory/atheropromoting and anti-inflammatory/atheroprotective and the mechanisms that regulate their function and trafficking. The goal of the Human Phenotyping and Immune Cell Core is to provide the resources necessary for translation of novel immune mechanisms of atherosclerosis that are discovered in murine models into the human model. Specifically, we will provide well-defined phenotypes of atherosclerosis burden and risk in patients with and without type 2 diabetes through IVUS-VH and Gensini score. The core will also provide genotyping of single nucleotide polymorphisms related to atherosclerotic mechanisms and phenotypic descriptions of immune cells in humans using flow cytometry and mass cytometry. Finally, the Core will be responsible for collection and shipment of serum, plasma, and PBMCs for analysis by individual projects.
